24x24 “High Plains Drifter” by Cheryl Pettigrew Fine Arts.High Plains Drifter is based from the Western Slope of Colorado where there are a lot of bluffs and cliffs. It is a high desert image but is not based on any particular area. The image is an acrylic painting done on paper for a smoother look.In this scene there is a full moon rising in the background as the afternoon wanes preparing for the coming night. The buffalo is one of many majestic animals that call the Rocky Mountains home and one of my favorite animals to paint. The image is considered fine art and western art and is done in the style from the renaissance period called chiaroscuro.Because the style encourages dark surroundings the image of the buffalo and the background really pop, drawing the viewers’ eyes to the center and up towards a colorful sky.I am a Colorado based artist and although I do a wide variety of art including still life, abstract and figurative, images from the Rocky Mountains are still my favorite to make.
