Sentinel at Dawn 48x32 from Artist Marianna M. DufordThe original watercolor was created in her studio in the mountains of Summit County, COI was getting ready to paint a painting of these beautiful creatures for the Wildlife Heritage Foundation's Stamp competition and needed my own photos to work from as copyright laws prohibit an artist from reproducing another's images, photographic or paintedThere are herds of Antelope that roam the open ranges of Northern Colorado and Wyoming and I set out on a photo expedition in my 4 wheel drive to see if I could find some to photographI came across this herd near Kremmling as the sun was just appearing in distant hillsLone males, the sentinel, can almost always be spotted keeping guard over the grazing herd. They make a frightening, sharp, loud, metallic sound, which is reminiscent of the snorting dinosaurs in the movie, "Jurassic Park" to put the group into flightI guess I was pretty scary, myself...but I got my photos to paint from! This is a canvas print derived from an original painting
